When did six pack abs become such a sexy and desirable trait? I don’t think there has always been quite the amount of obsession about abdominal workout as there is in our culture today. Everyone has tried some sort of abdominal workout to reach this goal. Most quickly realized that washboard abs are so highly sought after because they are so difficult to achieve. In order to achieve the classic washboard abs look, you need to have very low body fat in your body. You can do sit-ups and crunches all day long, but if your abdominal muscles are covered by a layer of fat your amazing six pack will not show through.
The most important thing to know about abdominal workout is that it’s not enough by itself. You have to lose body fat and tone your abdominal muscles at the same time in order to achieve the washboard look. To lose body fat you have to eat less calories than you burn every day. This may seem like a difficult task, but if you eat foods that are high in protein and low in fat and calories like chicken, fish, fat free cottage cheese and yogurt, you will feel fuller while eating less. Also, you should eat plenty of fiber from fruit, vegetables and whole grains. Combine your diet efforts with 30 minutes of cardio 5 times a week, lifting weights and an abdominal workout and you should be on your way.
